Responsible use
Cannabis is not without risk. Below is a short list of what to watch out for, with a pointer to the full explanation per topic and to independent sources at the bottom.
What to watch out for
- Eating it works more slowly The effect starts only after thirty minutes to two hours and lasts longer. Taking more too soon often produces a far stronger effect than intended. Cannabis edibles explained →
- Stay out of traffic Driving under the influence is prohibited and dangerous. The same applies to cycling.
- Do not combine With alcohol or medication the effects become unpredictable and more intense.
- Under 24 The brain keeps developing until around the age of 24. Use at a young age carries additional risk.
- Mental health Cannabis can trigger or worsen anxiety, confusion or low mood.
- Pregnancy Use is advised against during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
- Tolerance Regular use can lead to tolerance and dependence.
Feeling unwell?
Sit down somewhere quiet, drink water and do not stay on your own. It passes by itself. If symptoms are severe or breathing stays difficult, call a doctor, the out-of-hours GP service or 112.
